Government publishes revised draft of Abortion Reform Bill

The Isle of Man Government has published version 7 of Dr. Allinson’s draft Abortion Reform Bill 2017 (PDF).

This latest draft continues the egregious disregard of the humanity of the unborn child shown by earlier revisions. If passed into law, this Bill would further extend the worst form of child abuse, and undoubtedly result in the deaths of many more children in the Isle of Man. Please therefore continue to take action and, in particular, contact your MHKs again to urge them to oppose this Bill.

Urgent: Please respond to the Government’s Abortion Bill Consultation before 18 September 2017

The Isle of Man Government has published a draft of Dr. Allinson’s Abortion Reform Bill 2017 (PDF). A period of public consultation closes on 18 September 2017:

We note with dismay that the consultation materials have a heavily pro-abortion bias, and that Dr. Allinson – the very Ramsey MHK and GP who proposed the Bill – is listed as the contact for the consultation process. We further observe that the consultation was launched over the summer holiday, when people are likely to be away and unable to respond. At just six weeks, the consultation period is also unconscionably short for such a weighty matter.

Although the consultation process thus gives every appearance of partiality, and of the conclusion having been pre-determined, it is nevertheless critical that abolitionist and pro-life views are heard. We therefore urge you to complete the online survey and contact your MHKs.

Life Charity holding March for Life event on 30 July

The Life charity is holding a March for Life at 3.00 p.m. on Sunday, 30 July 2017. We have been told that the walk is not a demonstration, and that there will not be any placards, just a banner. Although Life is not connected with the campaign, we are pleased to help them publicize their event. Please attend and show your support if at all possible. Further details are in the promotional flyer below.

Twenty supporters of the campaign – including 13 women of all ages – joined together in Douglas town centre yesterday morning in a peaceful witness to oppose abortion, and to proclaim repentance and forgiveness of sins through faith in Christ.

Passers-by saw vivid photographs showing the irrefutable humanity of unborn children at various early stages of development. Positive comments from members of the public outnumbered the negative by a ratio of around two to one, with some people even telling campaigners that the witness had changed their minds about abortion.

Because abortion is the intentional killing of an innocent child, it can be nothing less than premeditated murder. Abortion is thus a symptom of a sick and sinful society, as was slavery before its abolition.

As people who have recognized their own sinfulness and guilt before a holy and righteous God, campaigners understand that the only cure for sin is repentance and forgiveness of sins through trusting in the finished, perfect work of Christ Jesus – that is, in His life, death, and resurrection for sinners. Having been forgiven their own sins, campaign supporters show love to their neighbours by warning them of God’s coming judgment, calling them to recognize and turn away from sin, and urging them to be reconciled with a gracious and compassionate God through Christ so that they, too, may be forgiven.

MHKs vote to grant Dr. Allinson leave to introduce abortion-on-demand Bill

Update 10 January 2018: A revised draft of Dr. Allinson’s draft Abortion Reform Bill has been published.

Update 28 August 2017: Dr. Allinson’s draft Abortion Reform Bill has now been published. A period of public consultation closes on 18 September 2017.

On 24 January 2017, Dr. Alex Allinson, MHK, requested leave to introduce a Private Member’s Bill that would grant abortion on demand up to 14 weeks of pregnancy, and even allow abortion up to 24 weeks for such trivial reasons as ‘serious social concerns’. Dr. Allinson also wishes to continue and extend the existing law’s unjust discrimination against people with disabilities by permitting children to be killed up to birth where there is a ‘substantial risk of severe disability’. Miss Clare Bettison, MHK, seconded Dr. Allinson’s request. Of the 24 Members of the House of Keys, 21 voted to permit Dr. Allinson to introduce his Bill; only three MHKs – Mrs. Kathleen Beecroft, Mr. Ray Harmer, and Mr. Christopher Robertshaw – voted against.

Dr. Allinson’s proposed Bill would effectively allow unrestricted on-demand abortion up to 24 weeks.

Given experience in the UK with the 1967 Abortion Act, which has stronger (though still wholly ineffective) restrictions, it is clear that Dr. Allinson’s proposed Bill would effectively allow unrestricted on-demand abortion up to 24 weeks of pregnancy.

The humanity of the unborn child

12WeekClump.jpg
Dr. Allinson and Clare Bettison … are wickedly endeavouring to legalize nothing less than the wholesale murder of children.

The image above shows a baby boy just 10–12 weeks after conception. The full humanity of the child is obvious and undeniable. Dr. Allinson (a GP) and Clare Bettison (a qualified nurse) – both health professionals who surely ought to know better – wish it to be legal to kill children of this age without restriction. Under the deceptive guise of ‘social justice’ and ‘reproductive healthcare’, they are wickedly endeavouring to legalize nothing less than the wholesale murder of children. If Dr. Allinson’s proposed Bill becomes law, he and Clare Bettison will – along with every other MHK who supports the legislation – personally share in the blood-guilt for every innocent child who is consequently slain.

Repentance and forgiveness

Speaking to the religious philosophers at Athens in the first century, Paul the Apostle warned:

Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent, because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man [Jesus] whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead. (Acts 17:30–31, NKJV).

We at wish no one to suffer the wrath of God on the day of judgment that is certainly coming. We therefore urge Dr. Allinson, Clare Bettison, and the other MHKs who support them, to repent of their sin, and throw themselves on the mercy of Christ Jesus. All who come to such a penitent faith in Christ – trusting in His life, death and resurrection for them – shall be saved from God’s righteous anger towards sinners:

For the Scripture says, “Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.” For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For “whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved.” (Romans 10:11–13)
