Twenty supporters of the rescue.im campaign – including 13 women of all ages – joined together in Douglas town centre yesterday morning in a peaceful witness to oppose abortion, and to proclaim repentance and forgiveness of sins through faith in Christ.
Passers-by saw vivid photographs showing the irrefutable humanity of unborn children at various early stages of development. Positive comments from members of the public outnumbered the negative by a ratio of around two to one, with some people even telling campaigners that the witness had changed their minds about abortion.
Because abortion is the intentional killing of an innocent child, it can be nothing less than premeditated murder. Abortion is thus a symptom of a sick and sinful society, as was slavery before its abolition.
As people who have recognized their own sinfulness and guilt before a holy and righteous God, rescue.im campaigners understand that the only cure for sin is repentance and forgiveness of sins through trusting in the finished, perfect work of Christ Jesus – that is, in His life, death, and resurrection for sinners. Having been forgiven their own sins, campaign supporters show love to their neighbours by warning them of God’s coming judgment, calling them to recognize and turn away from sin, and urging them to be reconciled with a gracious and compassionate God through Christ so that they, too, may be forgiven.
